Whether you are already driving electric or thinking about making the switch, your voice matters.

More drivers than ever are enjoying the benefits of lower running costs, smoother driving, and a cleaner way to travel. The second-hand EV market is also growing, and public awareness of the economic and environmental case for switching is stronger than ever. The UK’s charging network is also expanding rapidly, with nearly 80,000 public chargers now installed.

But as momentum builds, more needs to be done to ensure no one is left behind.

Earlier this year, we asked current and prospective EV drivers about the barriers they face, and the message was clear:

  • New EVs are still too expensive for many
  • It’s hard to access the second-hand market with confidence
  • Public charging is often too costly
  • Renters often can’t charge at home
  • Public charging isn’t always accessible

These issues are holding people back from making the switch, and we need the Government to hear from the drivers directly and take action.

Tell your MP: It’s time to back EV drivers

Change doesn’t just happen at election time. One of the most effective and powerful ways to influence policy is by writing to your MP.

MPs are there to represent you. They can address local issues and push for practical solutions, make your views known in Parliament and propose and consider new laws. Getting them on board with the things we care about is important.

Better yet, MPs are required to read what you send them and respond to all reasonable requests from their constituents. Making your voice heard can really make a difference and help to bring about changes for the better for drivers.

This is why we have created a simple tool that lets you contact your MP directly. It highlights the key concerns that matter to EV drivers, and presents practical and actionable policy recommendations from EVA England.

Together, we’re calling for MPs to:

  • Champion policies that make EVs more affordable and accessible to all
  • Build trust and confidence in the second-hand EV market
  • Stand up for renters’ rights to charge
  • Ensure public charging is fair and accessible
  • Meet with EVA England to discuss drivers’ recommendations and the steps needed to accelerate progress.

Finally, including your personal experience can help bring these issues to life, so personalising the letter with your own story can make an even bigger impact. But if you’re short on time, don’t worry, you can send the letter as it is.
