As of March 2026, there are over 1.9 million EVs on UK roads, comprising 20.6% of total car registration in 2026 so far.
Encouragingly, our annual surveys find 9 in 10 EV drivers would not return to petrol and diesel, meaning the vast majority of owners are seeing the real benefits of zero-emissions driving.
“My EV is the best car I’ve driven, quiet, easy to drive, easy to run, no noise or fumes. Brilliant for long and short journeys. Loads of charging infrastructure, never ever run out of charge. Just a pure pleasure to use and drive.”
But while more and more of us are buying electric cars due to the many benefits they offer, with EVs accounting for nearly one in four new cars registered in 2025, this surge is still driven by fleets and business buyers.
So the Government must play its part in ensuring EVs are made as affordable as possible for drivers of all incomes, whilst continuing to oversee that the whole EV ecosystem is ready for an electric future.
By giving EV drivers a voice, EVA England is here to ensure that there are policies and infrastructure in place to support this transition and encourage more people to go electric.
