Why this workshop?
Our drivers’ surveys show that, whilst 80–90% of drivers buy used cars, less than 25% of EV drivers do. This substantial difference suggests that the used EV market is not yet stable, mature or attractive enough to encourage drivers to switch across to electric. And the second-hand EV market is essential to the success of the EV transition – making electric vehicles accessible and affordable to more drivers is key to supporting the sustainability of the EV sector beyond targets and mandates focused on the new car market.
Alongside cost, questions around battery health, vehicle range, warranties and resale value can create hesitation and undermine confidence, even when the vehicles themselves are well-suited to everyday driving.
Marc Palmer (Autotrader) and Thomas McLennan (BVRLA) will talk through their data and present a state of the market report, and the subsequent discussion will help shape EVA England’s new drivers’ strategy, grounding it in members’ experiences and priorities.
This 90-minute session will focus on drivers’ experiences of buying, owning, and selling second-hand EVs, exploring what would help buyers feel more confident in using this market.
